The 7th Baltic Symposium of Biological Psychiatry, “Neuroimmunology and Mental Disorders“ will be held on August 26-27, 2011, in Palanga, Lithuania. Professor Robertas Bunevicius, the President of the Lithuanian Society of Biological Psychiatry and the Director of the Institute of Psychophysiology and Rehabilitation of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences is organizing this symposium.

According to the Preliminary Program, the plenary lecture “Immunology in schizophrenia“ will be given by Norbert Muller (Ludwig – Maximilians University of Munich, Germany).

Symposium, “Borna virus infection in mental disorders“ will be chaired by Hanns Ludwig (Free University of Berlin, Germany) and Elmars Rancans (Riga Strandins University, Latvia). The following talks will be given during this symposium:

“Mental disorders due to general medical conditions“ – by Robertas Bunevicius (Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Palanga, Lithuania),

“Viruses associated with mental disorders“ – by Hanns Ludwig (Free University of Berlin, Germany),

“Development in BDV diagnostics and relevance to human infections“ – by Liv Bode (Robert Koch institute, Berlin, Germany),

“Borna disease virus infection among inpatients with acute psychosis“ – by Violeta Mockeliuniene (Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Palanga, Lithuania), and

“Neuroendocrine factors in acute psychosis“ – by Vesta Steibliene (Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Palanga, Lithuania).

Symposium, “WFSBP Guidelines for the treatment of Alzheimer‘s disease and other dementias“ will be chaired by Daiva Rastenyte (Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Kaunas, Lithuania) and Robertas Bunevicius (Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Palanga, Lithuania). Arunas Germanavicius (Vilnius University, Lithuania) and Vesta Steiblienė (Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Palanga, Lithuania) will speak at this symposium.

Palanga is a nice seaside resort town in Western Lithuania, on the shore of the Baltic Sea. It has beautiful beaches of sand and sand dunes. In historical documents, the name of Palanga was first mentioned in 1161 when King Valdemar I of Denmark disembarked there with his army.
