Snorri Bjorn Rafnsson, B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D.Dr. Snorri Bjorn Rafnsson was trained in epidemiology at the University of Edinburgh Medical School. In 2002, he completed a M.Sc. degree in epidemiology, and in 2007, he was awarded a Ph.D. degree in the same subject. Dr. Rafnsson is currently a research fellow in epidemiology in the Department of Public Health Sciences. His research interests include the study of risk factors for cognitive decline in later-life, the health of migrant and ethnic minority populations, the epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases in South Asians, and sepsis as a global public health problem.

Since completing his doctoral studies, Dr. Rafnsson has first-authored publications on topics such as predictors of hospital readmissions from self-poisoning, cardiovascular diseases and cognitive decline, and inflammatory and hemostatic factors and cognition. In addition, he has written or contributed to several review articles and book chapters (published or in press) on cognitive function in older people with cardiovascular diseases.

Dr. Rafnsson is active in teaching epidemiology to postgraduate students. He is currently a visiting lecturer in epidemiology at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Akureyri, Iceland, and at the Institute for International Health and Development, Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. He is also senior tutor in epidemiology at the Department of Public Health Sciences, University of Edinburgh, and a co-lecturer on the annual Concepts of Epidemiology professional crash course in the Department.

Dr. Rafnsson is a member of The International Society for Vascular Behavioural and Cognitive Disorders, The European Young Epidemiologists Association, The Icelandic Epidemiology Association, and The Edinburgh Ethnicity, Race and Health research group. He is listed in Who’s Who is Medicine and Healthcare and Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
